Tanks appear as vehicles in the Crash Bandicoot series, first appearing in the Tank Wars minigames Crash Bash. Tanks later appeared as a vehicle used by Crash and as enemies in Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage.

Overview[]

Crash Bash[]

Tanks are used by the playable characters in the Tank Wars minigames Desert Fox, Metal Fox and Jungle Fox. Tanks can shoot in any direction and leave mines on the ground. Each character type has a different tank with slightly different capabilities. Crash and Coco (and Fake Crash in the Japanese version) fire yellow projectiles with average speed and power, Cortex and N. Brio fire green blasts with average power and faster speed, Tiny Tiger and Koala Kong fire spiky cannonballs which deal a lot of damage but move slowly, and Dingodile and Rilla Roo shoot fire blasts which are the fastest but deal low damage.

Tanks are also used by the Komodo Brothers in the second phase of their boss fight. They shoot green projectiles like Cortex and N. Brio.

Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage[]

Tanks are used by Crash in the levels Tanks for the Memories, Tankin' Over The World, Tanks 'R Us and Tank You Come Again, as well as the Tiny Takeover boss fight. The tank's turret can be rotated independently of the tank itself using the shoulder buttons and fired by pressing A.

Blue enemy tanks also appear in the aforementioned tank levels; they also appear as obstacles in the level In Hot Water. These tanks either stay still or move in circles on set paths, periodically firing their weapon. Some shoot glowing balls of energy, while others spurt fire. These tanks can be destroyed by shooting them with your own tank.

Small tanks descending on parachutes can also be seen in the Remote Copter levels Chopper Stopper, Chop 'Til You Drop and Crash at the Controls. These parachute attempt to approach Crash and destroy the pod he is in, and must be shot with the remote copter before they can reach him. The exact behavior of these tanks vary depending on the color of their parachute; tanks with blue parachutes fall slowly, tanks with green parachutes fall faster, tanks with yellow parachutes fall slowly and periodically fire their weapon, while tanks with red parachutes fall fast and fire their weapon. Occasionally tanks will appear with a force field protecting the tank, meaning the parachute must be shot to take it down.
