The Rift Generator is a device created and operated by Dr. Nefarious Tropy. Located deep in space, it was initially used to merely create rifts between dimensions, but also had the ability to reset timelines it affected, effectively destroying them.
In Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, after N. Tropy and Neo Cortex escaped from the past through a rift opened by Uka Uka, they, N. Brio and N. Gin used the Rift Generator as a base of operations and to travel between dimensions in their plan to conquer the multiverse. After Cortex was defeated by Crash and Coco Bandicoot, N. Tropy contacted him and revealed his and his alternate universe counterpart's plan to destroy the multiverse with the Generator and create a new one to rule over. The bandicoots teamed up with Cortex, eventually joined by Tawna and Dingodile.
On board Nitros Oxide's spaceship, Tawna split from the group to confront the N. Tropys alone and not put Crash and Coco in danger of dying, but was defeated by them. Arriving at the Rift Generator's location, Crash and Coco would then confront and defeat the nefarious duo. After Dingodile sent the two into a rift, the Quantum Masks closed all the rifts created by the Generator, presumably rendering it inoperational.
