Dingo Canyon is the eighth race course featured in Crash Team Racing and Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. This is Dingodile's home track. The Yellow Gem Cup is the home of this stage, along with Tiny Arena, Hot Air Skyway, and Oxide Station. In Arcade mode, this track is in the Crystal Cup, along with Roo's Tubes, Dragon Mines, and Sewer Speedway. Nitro-Fueled also places this track as part of the Desert Cup.

Description[]

This track looks like something out of a cartoon. Not only are there obstacles such as rolling armadillos to watch out for, and cacti on the sides of the road, but there are parts of the road covered with water (or is that a mirage?) and one giant cliff at the end of the course.

Crash Team Racing Prima strategy guide

This track goes for a rugged outback look and theme, intending to represent an Australian-like environment. Its cacti, armadillos and rock formations make it more closely resemble an American desert, however. It contains little ponds, tall, rocky cliffs, and cacti which dot the landscape. Due to the fact that there is an actual marked road, it may be possible that the track is also based on the motorcycle-themed levels from Crash Bandicoot: Warped. The structure and design of this track directly reflect the battle arena, Rocky Road.

The track begins with a small bump before curving around to the right, with an armadillo rolling back and forth across the road at the end of the curve. Alternatively, racers can take a sharp right turn to cut across the sand for a small shortcut. Next is a long downhill descent, lowering racers down into a partially flooded section of road at the bottom of a deep valley. At the end of the valley is an upwards zig-zag with a boost pad in the middle, going right, then left, then right again before emerging from the valley completely.

After exiting is a brief straight section with two more rolling armadillos before the road forks around a rock formation. The road goes uphill as it gently turns to the right before peaking in a cliff, sending racer jumping down to the finish line below. One final armadillo rolls back and forth just before the finish line.

CTR Challenge[]

  • C: The C can be found very close to the finish line, on the inside of the curve of the first turn, to the right on the side of the road.
  • T: The T is hidden right behind the rock formation that the road forks around.
  • R: The R can be obtained by jumping to the right on the final big jump before the finish line, collecting the letter from where it floats in the air.

Trivia[]

  • In the relic race, there is a pair of 1-second crates in the same position. Located early in the lap, hitting it automatically breaks both crates, freezing the clock for two seconds, and adding two to the broken crate total. Sewer Speedway and Slide Coliseum contain similar crates.
  • The soundtrack used in Dingo Canyon was remixed and used as the theme music for Blizzard Bluff.
  • The track can be compared to the Crash Nitro Kart race track Out of Time, as they both involve racing on a desert road. An obvious difference is that Out of Time features a massive clock face in the middle of the track while Dingo Canyon does not.
  • In some areas of the Nitro-Fueled version, numerous buildings from the motorcycle-themed levels in Crash Bandicoot: Warped have been added around the first turn of the track.
  • In the remade version, the motorcycles parked outside the gas station heavily resemble the one that Crash drove.
  • If you glitch through a wall in the Nitro-Fueled version, part of Orange Asphalt can be seen with racers and police cars.
  • In Nitro-Fueled, a potoroo gangster can be spotted fussing with some Lab Assistants inside the diner.
  • The gas station has a working bell hose that the player can drive over to make ring.
  • In the introductory cutscene of Nitro-Fueled, Dingodile is shown here instead of Dragon Mines.
