I find myself wondering if Crash of the Titans could ever be salvaged... I personally do not think that it works as a mainline Crash Bandicoot game and instead as a spinoff title, but what does everyone else think?

According to TV Tropes.com
This is what the trope said regarding to Crash's tattoos.
"Forbes: After years (and as many developers) the world of Crash has had many characters with different styles. We wanted a unified and modern style for the main character cast. A long time ago, in 2007, punk was very strong among the new generation of kids. The Crash Universe needed a change of destination. However, these changes weren't just due to the commercialisation of the game. Tiny was one of the first Cortex experiments with Mojo. This experiment turned Tiny into a smarter mutant with a different look. The tribals tattoo in Crash's arms are the result of contact between our hero and Mojo. This information was supposed to be present in the game, but due to the short time available these scenes are not in the original game."
I couldn't find any of the information about Kristen Forbes's original interview. maybe it is gone since deleted.

Sadly, it isn't a video link, but I don't wanna leave you hanging, so if you haven't heard of it, it's called Activate the Dancebot. You will not regret watching this
On September 9, 1996, nearly 25 years ago, the first Crash Bandicoot game was released on the PlayStation 1, and since then, he's been one of the most iconic video-game mascots, going toe-to-toe with Mario, Sonic, his ally Spyro, and Rayman. Since then, his franchise evolved, introducing Crash's new allies, foes, new locations, various types of gameplay, et cetera. Yes, Crash had some mediocre games in the past (Crash Tag Team Racing, Crash of the Titans, Crash: Mind Over Mutant, Crash Bash, et cetera,) but it doesn't matter. We shouldn't sweep the controversial aspects of a franchise under a metaphorical rug, especially during an anniversary! We celebrate the anniversary of a franchise to commemorate its existence, not to just ridicule its flaws. Yes, most anniversaries like this typically means the main copyright holders of the franchise would attempt to dangle nostalgia in fans' faces, but let's not get political here. Crash is turning 25, is one of the most iconic videogame mascots of all time, was Sony's mascot in his early years, was thrown to random developers like a football, and returned gracefully in 2017.
Happy Birthday, Crash!
